Editing-ish

Today I began the filming editing process. This was the most worrisome part of the process for me. I knew that I would not be able to film on the school computers because I do not think I would have been able to edit it in the two days we were given. For this reason I chose to edit the music video on iMovie on my phone. This isn’t the easiest method to to edit however it was my only option. To start I dumped all of the footage on to my laptop to look through the footage and decide which takes I wanted to use. Although I couldn’t edit on my laptop it was a bigger screen to view the footage on. After deciding which takes to use I transported all the footage to google drive. I used google drive because I can access it on all my devices. This is helpful because I can start the editing process in my phone and continue to view the footage on a larger screen. Additionally, google drive have a feature on the phone where you can make the files available offline. Since I have such a busy schedule I am not home often so the ability to edit on the go is essential.
Once I have the footage in google drive I added it into iMovie. I did not add all of the footage because the smaller screen would make it difficult to view it all at once. Even though I did not add all of the footage the duration was almost two minutes. The limit for our music video is 1 minute and 15 seconds so I knew I would have to cut down some of the footage. Furthermore, I didn’t know how to add the music into the video so that is very troubling. The music is basically the entire point of the video and without it I do not have a final product. After practice today I will try to figure out how to add in the sound. I have spoken to some of my classmates and we have concluded that there is not way to directly add the music to the video through iMovie. I have to recorded it from my laptop as a voiceover.

Filming Blog Cont.

Over Thanksgiving break, I finally had the time to film so I checked with all of my actors to validate their availability. Some did not notify me until the day before that they would not be available. This was extremely inconvenient because it threw off my whole filming plan. I had to find and secure new actors as well as develop a new storyboard because I would no longer have a male actor. I found two actors that would be able to film at such short notice. The actual filming, however, went quite smoothly. As I stated in the previous vlog I acquired all of the props needed. The only other obstacle I had to face was a location on the beach. Due to poor planning on my part, the beach was extremely crowded when I arrived and it was somewhat difficult to find an are far enough away from people so that I could film. We eventually settled in one of the lesser crowded areas.
In my original plan, I wanted to film the sunrise over the ocean. I had a lapse in judgment and did not realize that because the sun would rise over the ocean it would not set over the ocean. Realizing this I was disappointed that I would not get the look I was hoping for. However, the sky still changed colors over the ocean which served as a good setting. Although since this did not provide what I wanted I decided to film in other areas. We walked to an ice cream shop and I filmed some on the way. I also filmed in the ice cream shop. Since this isn’t a public area I asked the workers if it was okay if I filmed inside the shop. I got approval and filmed some footage in the shop. After the ice cream I filmed on the sidewalk as well
I am pretty disappointed that the male actors were unavailable. I messed up my storyboard and now the story is no longer as distinct. Due to this I think I might have to reshoot some of the clips to had more of a plot to the music video. This being said, I will have to find a time that my same actors are available which will not be easy. They live far away from me and have busy schedules as well. I think I will end up filming by myself and use the cutaway technique to blend the two scenes together. My main concern at the moment is editing if I want to edit at home all the editing will have to be done on my phone because I do not have a sufficient editing software on my laptop. We only have two classes until the due date so this is a bit worrisome. While I didn’t get the outcome I expected I still got majority of my filming done. I will enter the editing stage of this project with a positive mindset to avoid unnecessary stress.
